I want a camera

I've been wanting a camera for ages. Not some fancy shit, just one I can take pictures of myself with when I do my makeup looks and such. My iPhone and webcam just doesn't cut it to be quite honest.

I went shopping with my mother now this weekend, ended up with quite a good haul of useful things! Two pair of black jeans, a sweater, wool pantyhose, socks. A drying rack, some boxes to store leftovers in, a hairdryer, a multi-purpose shaving machine, new lightbulbs and a nailclipper. I was lucky enough to get to go makeup-shopping as well, and ended up with a new foundation from MAC, a sheer loose powder, and a new mascara from Lancôme.

The makeup is more what I wanted to write about today. I've been longing to try out the foundations and such from MAC for ages. But I must say I was dissapointed with the service I got when getting one. Imagine this:

Pale, little Cara walks in. Explains that she needs a matte foundation that's good for dry skin, as well as a transluscent powder to set it with. The foundation ought to have moderate to full cover as I do modelling now and then, and do my own makeup before most of the shoots. And I'm pale, and not wanting to go all bronzy and shimmery. The first ones she finds for me are too dark, and the powder isn't transluscent, even though I specified that that's what I wanted. But she says "I think you should have more of a tan". Now. The woman telling me this is a 40+, over-baked and bronzed fake blonde with nails from here to hell. My opposite, to put it that way. I tell her calmly that I'm not after that. I like being pale, want something with good coverage and a matte finish, as well as a transluscent powder. From the looks of things at that moment, that is what I finally walked out with. But I still find it hard to believe that the products she sold me are meant to be matte. Feels like there's a bit too much shimmer for me when I look at myself in the mirror with proper lighting.

And I think I was right. Looking at MAC's own pages I found this: MAC Mineralize Satinfinish spf 15 foundation: A fluid foundation that blends the natural light-reflecting properties of micro-minerals with a smooth satin finish. Provides a low-to-medium buildable coverage with a slightly luminous look. Contains antioxidants vitamins C and E. Provides everyday SPF 15 sun protection. Long-wearing. Suitable for normal-dry skins.

Now..where did "low-to-medium buildable coverage" and "slightly luminous look" come into the picture when I asked for a foundation with a matte finish? I also mentioned that my previous foundation was a shade too dark and way too sparkly for me, and that was why I was getting something else. It's also for normal-dry skins. I'm a bit dryer than that, which was notable when applying it to my jawline and t-zone.

I'm not really complaining about the product in general. More about that I was sold the wrong product, after being told "I'm the makeup artist here, you should listen to my recommendations" by an old hag that looked like she'd baked in the oven then stuck her face in bronzer mixed with glitter. I might be going back some day soon to mention this, and ask what other foundation they have that might suit my complexion and goal better. Not that I can afford it for another three weeks, but I'll just have to make do I guess. At least the powder was what I was after. "
Translucent, featherweight, ultra-fine, sublimely silky. Provides sheer, micro-fine finish. Mattes the skin but keeps its natural glow. Makes skin look almost naked."

The mascara you say? It's my Lancôme Définicils mascara. I've been using it for about half a year now, and love it to death. Perfect wand for my eyesize, and buildable volume. Love it!

Now to end this rant with this: I strongly dislike how many "experts" in their field mess up at my expense, not imagining that I know what I'm after. We're not all dummies you can trick into buying whatever YOU like.

But yes, I still want a camera. I can't seem to bother to do new makeup looks when I can't show anyone what I've done. I love doing it for myself, but there is a limit *giggle*
